“I decided that no matter what job I ever did, I wanted that same feeling I got when I first started in radio—the feeling of ‘I love this so much, even if you didn’t pay me I’d show up every day, on time and happy to be here’.” — Oprah Winfery.

I always wondered why it is so hard for one to figure out what they love to do, and why one keep on doing the job or the tasks they don‘t enjoy. For the sake of what?To make a living? To have a fancy car, fancy house? To provide a better education for their kids?Better opportunities?Whatever it might be, are we living the life we are meant to live?
I sure love what Oprah said, doing the job you love so much, that even if you don’t get paid, you would show up to do it. Ok, the reality is, how long would it take before we know what is the job of our dreams? For some, a few months, a few years, 10, 20, 30 years or never in their life. I believe, it is only a matter of choice. Our choice, from day to day things, to a big decision. How do we make that decision count?Make the decision, and be responsible when making it!
“Active Laziness” is the term that Sogya Rinpoch used to describe how we fill up our lives with many unimportant tasks, so called “responsibilities”, so that we look busy, very busy, but not getting what really needs to be done, done.
He said, “If we look into our lives, we will see clearly how many unimportant tasks, so-called “responsibilities” accumulate to fill them up. ”
We assume responsibility for our life, our weight, our money, our job, our relationships, and with each decision we make!If it is ours, or we decided to take part in it, then we should be certain why. Why are we in it?If we are not sure, we are not really in it, we are just ACTIVELY doing something, and getting some result that appears to be what we can accept or what other people can accept. We have been blindly following. Following what the media tells us, our friends, our family, our government all have something to say. With the information overload society that we are in today, it is easier to listen to what others say than to make our own choices. But when we do make the choice responsibly we feel good, and can live with ourselves. Especially the choice that comes from our heart.
Today, I can make a choice to get up earlier, to meditate first, then do yoga practice, eat a healthy breakfast, then start my day. At work, I can choose to focus and effectively get my work done, so I can spent more time with my family in the evening. I can choose to save the money and invest in education for myself, so that one day, I can make another decision for a job that I will like more or enjoy more.
Adding wise words from Oprah, “The true measure of your courage is not whether you reach your goal—it’s whether you decide to get back on your feet no matter how many times you’ve failed.” Do not be discourage in this process of finding your better life, because sometimes we make the decision correctly, and sometimes we will make the decision that will give us a great lesson!
So everyday, we can choose to be in ”Active Laziness“, or we can make an effort to make a conscious decision for our life, responsible for the result, because it will have a direct impact on us first before anyone else!
